تحكي الرواية عن تجربة أغلب الشباب مع الحياه، والظروف الإحتماعية التي يعاصرونها، وأكثر المشاكل التي تقف عقبه في طريقهم. تبدأ الرواية بشاب في الثامنة والعشرين من عمره وضعته الحياة في ظروف صعبة، وكأنه في أرذل العمر، مالك الذي أجبرته الظروف بعد وفاة والده إلى ترك فكرة الثانوية العامة، والإلتحاق بإحدى الكليات والإكتفاء بدبلوم تجارة حتي يستطيع الإنفاق على أسرته المكونة من هاجر أخته في كلية الهندسة، ووالدته. استطاع مالك أن يحصل على وظيفة حكومية فتح بجانبها محل للعطور كي يستطيع تحمل مسؤلية نفقات عائلته، مرت حياة مالك بظروف لا يتحملها سوى الرجال ولكن علاقته بربه ولدت بداخله إيمان بأن الله لن يترك عبدا تركه مهما حدث.
